Getting Started with SMARTtsm
1. Pick a server to test.
Choose the production server you want to test. (Remember, SMARTtsm does not touch the production server; it only communicates with TSM.)
The production server you choose should be:
- a Windows 2003 server ...
- ... backed up with the TSM b/a client (32-bit, version 5.3 or later)
- ... running an MS SQL database
- ... which is backed up with TDP for MSSQL, version 5.3 or later
2. Get a license key.
Find this server's TSM node name and its NETBIOS name (My Computer, Properties, System Name, Full name). Then get a SMARTtsm license here.
3. Set up the testing platform.
It's easiest to use the preinstalled VM. Download two files:
http://www.asensus.com/getsmart/FastSMART.part1.exe
http://www.asensus.com/getsmart/FastSMART.part2.rar
Execute FastSMART.part1.exe file to extract the VM files into their own directory. Then start the VM using VMware Player, or use VMware Converter to load it onto ESX.
(It's less easy, but you can use your own VM, or a physical machine. It must be running Windows 2003 Server, and have the TSM b/a client installed. Then download the SMARTtsm installer here, and install it. Use Section A of the video instructions.)
4. Configure and run AutoRecovery.
Follow Section B of the video instructions.
