Art Installation Guide

Before you start:

  • ART requires TSM Server Version 5.4 or higher.
  • ART runs under VMware:
    • Large sites usually use VMware ESX for performance.
    • If you're unfamiliar with VMware, don't worry, the tools you need to use ART are available for free. We recommend you get VMware Player (Windows, Linux) or VMware Fusion (Mac) for a quick and easy way to run the ART virtual machine.
  • ART's other prerequisites

In Short:

(See the new four-minute videos: Installing on ESX, and Getting Started!)

  • Download and unzip the ART virtual machine.
  • Start up the ART VM. Either click the  art.vmx file, or use VMware Converter to move it to an ESX server.
  • Setup: Browse to the IP address shown under "Getting Started with ART", on the VMware console.  Set up your TSM servers.
  • Execute: Click the "Start a New Sweep" button on the dashboard.

In Detail:

Download and unzip the ART virtual appliance.

  1. Download the ART zip file, named "artvm-1.3.2564.zip" or similar.
  2. Unzip the downloaded file to a working directory.

Start up the ART VM.

Setup

ART is web-based. Point your browser to the IP address shown on the VMware Console under "Getting Started with ART".

  1. Click "Login" (upper right), and log in as "art", password "tsmworks".
  2. Click the "TSM Servers" tab, a window will open asking for your license.
  3. Register, and a trial license goes to your mailbox immediately. (Sometimes these get lost in your Junk Mail folder. The subject line reads "TSMworks ART Trial License".)
  4. Copy the entire line (not just the "key=xxx" part) from your the Trial License email,  paste it into ART's license window, and click Submit.  The line looks like this:

 name=My Corp id=41 nodes=1 key=0e7172b56a4be10a64c1fdf4e54412c46d50b03d

  1. Return to the "TSM Servers" tab, then click "Add".  Enter your TSM server's contact information.  Repeat for other TSM servers.
  2. Click the "Preferences" tab, and review the Basic Settings. Float your mouse over each field for explanations.

Execute

  1. Click the Dashboard tab, then "Start a New Sweep".
  2. Wait for the first test to physically restore files.  The dashboard refreshes automatically, and Sweep 1 should begin to show progress in 5 minutes or so. Hover the mouse over the pause and stop buttons to the left of the sweep, to see how to control it.  Below is a dashboard that has run 7 sweeps already.

 Optional:

Use the Accounts tab to change the administrator password or add yourself as a new administrator; replace null@null.net with your email address.

You can also schedule automatic sweeps using crontab, Autosys or other scheduler.  Just have the scheduler run "/home/art/script/sweeper_daemon"  as user "art".
